What great performances. And no special effects needed to carry the actors.

You can't get that kind of movie made for theatres anymore. Too much overhead for the return. These movies are "made for TV" now. Usually for HBO.

I just got back from seeing "War of the Worlds" and "Batman Begins." Both great special effects movies. What was interesting to me is how well the special effects are now seamlessly woven into the movie. You don't even go "wow" anymore, you expect them to be this good. This was especially true with WOTW. Typical Spielberg movie. Not his best, but his average is a very good movie.

"Batman" would not have worked without the great actors used. Liam Neesem and Morgan Freeman are good, but Michael Caine really holds the movie together. The excellent script makes the movie.
