Searle >> And if China buys Unocal and other "real" US assets there's less money to buy US paper. That could bring the house of cards down

The SEC yesterday approved the Chevron Uncoil proposal.

As Unocal directors consider whether to recommend CNOOC US$18.5 billion Dollars were available for this deal from a private source for a very low interest rate.

Treasuries have a fixed return and we have entered into a era of increased energy consumption world wide.

There are numerous questions in this as oil is politically sensitive. I tend to think that in this case CNOOC hasn’t got much of a chance.

Now China is stuck with an ever increasing supply of US bills and in the business would profit is made from investment of dollars. Long range well it is not going to be easy for China as a world of political preference is butting heads with free world business.

US and Japan I think have the largest corporation in the world and they also have political symmetry. Japan now has the largest bank. It is going to be very tough for the new kid on the block. Dollars and more dollars and more dollars that are limited in use stretch it far enough and long enough China could own the FED.
