That's not what the ABC News reporter said right after the speech, she said there was a prior agreement between the soldiers and the White House staff on when to applaud, not on his entrance as they'd be standing at attention. Then they never applauded until the bush's staff standing in the back of the room starting clapping did the soldiers feel obligated to join in in a half-hearted way. Even their exit applause completely lacked enthusiasm. It must be a real dilemma to be in the military when a totally despicable incompetent president is in office, he's your commander-in-chief and you have no choice but to obey whether you respect him or not.
