Here's something interesting- and quite frankly, I pay so little attention to what Bush says, I didn't even notice it. But in Bush's speech he said "This 4th of July, I ask you to find a way to thank the men and women defending our freedom, by flying the flag, sending letters to our troops in the field or helping the military family down the street. "

Now I happened to talk to our neighbors the other day, and what my neighbors heard (even though Bush really didn't say this), when Bush made his speech (they listened to it, I just read it)- was that Bush was linking flying the flag to supporting the war. Now our neighbors are salt of the Earth types- not ivory tower intellectuals or Berkeley liberals. He's in the trades, and she works for a large conservative company. They were pissed off.

What struck me is the anger our neighbors are experiencing. They are much more pissed off than I am at this point. I didn't ask if they voted for Bush- I just don't ask people stuff like that in 3d, so I don't know who they voted for. I like peace. This was all volunteered, with no hook from me. I don't bring up politics with the neighbors. Not only are they pissed off, but they won't fly their flag now (and they ALWAYS fly their flag- when their nephew was in Iraq they flew it until he came home.)

Anyway, I thought some of you might find that interesting. I wonder if it pissed other people off that much? Our neighbors were ranting- and I've just never seen them do that.
