"PUBCASTING HUBBUB [Tim Graham]
NPR has posted Fred Mann's notes on monitoring liberal bias in public broadcasting for the CPB. They are findings, but not an overarching report. Liberal newspapers today are in an uproar, as are the PBS/NPR folks, of course. They seem scandalized by the idea that anyone could label a reporter -- gasp -- as a liberal when they serve as a guest on a talk show. Really? Do they think we can't figure out Eleanor Clift has a liberal opinion?
Actually, the liberals are scandalized that anyone would monitor a program, and attempt to classify its contents. Earlier this year, Pat Mitchell, the PBS president, told the Los Angeles Times she was upset at all the content criticism she’d taken from left-wing groups finding an emerging conservative bias, since "They are our natural allies and friends...I'd expect them to be more understanding. The sad thing is, the people who want to see public television get better resources are hardly helping by participating in this kind of [content] debate." The PBS slogan: Shut up about what's on the programs. Just show us the money.
PS: Please note some of those reacting are so liberal they don't really see Bill Moyers as biased. Which is funny, because Mr. "So-Called Liberal Media," Eric Alterman, concedes Moyers is a liberal. The leftists at Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting have also conceded Bill Moyers is a liberal." corner.nationalreview.com |
