Of course they do. But tejek, I have learned that an ocean of thought separates you and I. When things go horribly wrong, you stand back and lament, bitch and moan, and throw recriminations all around. This makes you feel better and somehow morally superior. I take a different approach. I came to dislike Bush. So I didn't vote for him the second time around. In addition, I don't like his approach in Iraq, but I don't willfully blind myself to the potential for good to come out of this situation.

Go back and read my post........that's not what I was saying. As for good coming out of it, very little good comes out of bad. And weaning ourselves off oil does not require the death of 2000 people and the maiming of 13k more. Someone reading that post might think you were callous.

In your mind, only bad things can come from bad situations. But the people to whom this world belongs are the ones who see the opportunities in bad situations. That's something that you will not learn in school. Try some optimism. It can change your world.

If good does come from this situation then it does. However, what you said was you are secretly hoping that the death and destruction in Iraq will get us off of oil. Again someone might consider you a bit callous..........others might call you a modern day Marie Antoinette. Do you hope more people will die on the freeways so they will lower the speed limit, and in that way, reduce energy consumption? Do you hope more loggers will die so they will stop despoiling the forests? Where do your secret hopes stop?

Death and maiming should not be required to change the destructive policies of a nation. In fact, they must not be what's needed before the destructive policies of a nation can be changed.
