For example, the Republican party really is mostly a white, Christian party.

So is the Democratic Party. Take a look at Kerry and his HQ people during the last election. They let the blacks on the plantation, but they are still in the fields. The party loves the segregated congressional districts just as much as the Republicans do.

The best argument Mehlman has is exactly this one.
