Greed to me has always been re pungent
Capitalism provides a way of harnessing greed- -an unavoidable and recurrent human emotion- -to common good of the species.

Greed has been with us through all history. And it is reliable and will excite men to superhuman efforts. The wish to do something for someone you don't even know or is at best a passing acquaintance is notoriously unreliable.

Greed certainly can have its bad effects. It leads men to rob banks and overthrow peaceful and democratic gov'ts. But it can also be very good. A poor boy by the name of Thomas Edison was pushed by it to make a great many useful and still-used inventions and become quite rich in the process. It pushed Bill Gates to work long hours on code to get it to a marketable point - and intially do the marketing. It ges and undesrved bad reputation.
