Prime Medical Services, Inc. Announces Opening of New
Lithotripter Operation in Hawaii

AUSTIN, Texas--(BW HealthWire)--Sept. 9, 1997--Prime Medical Services, Inc. (``Prime'')
(Nasdaq/NM:PMSI) today announced the opening of its 59th lithotripter operation, a Siemens
Lithostar in Hawaii.

The lithotripter performed its first procedures on Friday, Sept. 5, 1997 at the Castle Medical
Center. It is only the second unit in Hawaii and the only unit to be operating on a mobile basis,
allowing it to contract with multiple hospitals. Prime is the managing general partner of Pacific
Medical Limited Partnership, the partnership which received approval from the state for a
Certificate of Need earlier this year.

Dr. Joseph Jenkins, President, stated, ``We are excited for the opportunity to help the urologists and
hospitals provide mobile lithotripter services in Hawaii.''

Lithotripsy is a cost effective, non-invasive method for treating kidney stones through the use of
extracorporeal shock waves which pulverize kidney stones and permit them to pass painlessly from
the body. Prime Medical is the largest operator of lithotripters in the United States, currently
performing over 36,000 procedures annually, through contracts with approximately 400 hospitals
and 255 managed care companies. Prime Medical operates a fleet of 59 lithotripters in 34 states.
Prime is also developing mobile routes to provide thermotherapy services to hospitals and surgery
centers to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
