I didn't claim to believe you earned less than a penny last week. I find it far more likely that you didn't earn somewhere in the neighborhood of $272.6 million last week to beat AMD's 36 year net income.

Fair enough. For the record, I did not exceed $272.6 million in earnings last week. I am going by the assertion of the original article that AMD would finish 2003 at or near zero actual overall earnings. If the actual numbers differ then so be it. The point remains that over it's entire lifetime AMD has earned close to nothing. This is an undeniable indictment on AMD's Board of Directors and certainly a justification for desperate behavior. Does this explain AMD's actions? Well if I were to use the standards of this board then the answer would be yes.
