Pentagon Weighs Strategy Change to Deter Terror

The Clinton era military personnel cut of over 800,000 uniformed men and women eliminated our ability to fight two wars simultaneously.

Adjusting Pentagon strategic planning guidance to each service, in the wake of these cuts, is overdue.

Everything is on the table now including offensive and defensive operations, our conventional war strategy, and our nuclear strategy.
Recruiting and retaining sufficient military personnel is near the top of the list and you can bet the draft will be included in the discussions.

Currently, the operational tempo for SF A teams is 7 months in combat in Iraq or Afghan and seven months out. But out does not mean going home. Teams are deployed in over 30 other countries right now and more often than not some of the 7 months out is on one of these OPS. By Christmas, SF NCOs will have completed or be on at least their 4th combat tour since 9/11.

Numerous other units like Army rangers, the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, USMC Force Recon and numerous other specialty units (like MPs) have operational schedules close to SF.

Estimates I've been briefed on indicate there are still 150 million Muslim militants on earth. 15 million are considered radical Muslim militant extremists and 1.5 million are considered capable of a suicide attack against Jewish, American and/or Christian targets.

The challenge is huge. Our military is quite small. Something has to be changed.
