The fab capacity that Spansion ordered from TSMC will in my opinion not be used for Mirrorbit or ORNAND, but for offloading floating gate in order to free Spansion capacity for Mirrorbit and ORNAND. Mirrorbit and ORNAND require working with metal nitride oxide transistors that I don't believe are in the TSMC library. Nor do I think that AMD wants more possibilities to leak IP by outsourcing their latest and greatest. So I don't agree with reports that stated that AMD might have been looking to outsource manufacturing of ORNAND, I rather think that because of additional fab capacity needed for ORNAND they outsource their oldest (i.e. floating gate).

Rink
