Before you put much stock in the decision by the liberal United Church of Christ, you should realize that this is one of the churches that has really taken a huge hit on membership in the past four decades. There's an interesting chart here:

As you can tell, UCC represents a small and shrinking percentage of the Christian population of the U.S.
