Hindalco Says Floods Cut Copper Output in Gujarat
2005-07-06 09:22 (New York)
By Debarati Roy
July 6 (Bloomberg) -- Hindalco Industries Ltd., India's
biggest maker of nonferrous metals, said floods forced the
company to reduce copper production at its plant in Gujarat.
The floods disrupted supplies of raw materials and prevented
people from coming to work, spokeswoman Pragnya Ram said. She
declined to say by how much production had fallen.
Hindalco's Gujarat plant has the capacity to refine 500,000
metric tons of copper a year after it completed an expansion in
April, according to the company's Web site. Before the expansion,
the plant had capacity of 250,000 tons.
