neolib,

I am not saying you are a killer or that even that liberals are, I was just trying to be as over the top as you were :-)

Please show me anything mathematically close to reality illustrating that >50% of conservatives are anything let alone deficient in science. Yes there is a group of evangelicals who might be that way, but there is also a huge influence in liberal thought and the Democratic party by their fringe (ie Moveon.org and the like).

A comparable hole in Liberal beliefs is with mathematics, very few get it. Ted Rall wrote a column a while back about how all engineering is droll work, mostly weapons and DOD based and the Indians and Chinese immigrants could have it. His most telling comment was - 'it was too hard'. Basically he flunked out of engineering school and became a 'liberal' columnist.

It really explains to me why most engineers I know are Republicans :-)

In all seriousness, the conservatives I know view science empirically. In contrast the liberals I know view science through the prism of politics.

Having stated that I will admit that conservatives do have the baggage of the Christian right. You just won't admit there is any baggage on your side.

John
