I was surprised London got the games over Paris ... by a final vote of 54-50. The US and Britain are held in such disregard these days as a result of the Bush/Blair Iraq follies. Almost a third of the world class soccer players, though, currently play in England. So the country much be given credit for its international sports image. Many of its venues are immaculate. Considering any US bid in the current political climate would be insane. New York not making it to the final vote is not surprising. Could you imagine the security risks?
