They're "poking the grizzly" once too hard and often, and it will backfire. Pissing off one or the other of an allied US/UK works for a minimal bit, but historically, nobody's survived hitting both of them.

Maybe AQ has enough Other Arab World support to provoke WWIII, but I really think the ordinary muslims to which you refer won't fully back them in this case. If that position is wrong ... then we're shortly going to be on the wrong planet.
