>> The fact is, in answer to Bob's complaint, we already do understand Al-Qaeda terrorists.

I am not sure this is true. I have no sympathy for any organized religious group, let alone a militant fanatical one like AQ. But do you really know how it is that they recruit people? How is it that a bunch of educated middle class or even wealthy people choose to die so they take a few of us with them rather than living in comfort? Did you know that some of the 9/11 terrorists loved to get drunk and eat pork, and do so religion cannot be the only cause of their acts?

>> There is an obvious course of history for the society of the world that tracks the many struggles by people to be liberated from tyrants, liberated from oppressive dogma, to be liberated from unjust social order, while seeking greater autonomy in their individual lives of peaceful coexistence with others.

Yes and I am surprised it took them so long to realize that the arm that swings the fist is as guilty and the hand makes the fist. It is all part of the same mechanism.

Bush has actually woken up to this fact. Which is why he says for the past 60 yeas US has had the wrong policy in support thugs. I have watched his intellectual progress over the past 4 years and has not been bad at all...now if only he'd actually put that knowledge into action in Uzbekistan I'd have more faith in him.

>> The Islamo Terrorists gave up on continuing that struggle.

The ME people tried a multitude of doctrines from communism to fascism to capitalism to whatever you can think of. None produced the right results and those who had some potential were nipped at the bud by US. Jihadists are just the only venue of struggle left. Give them a better alternative and you will see less support for the Jihadists.

>> They see them selves as the Arc commanding the rains. I believe they are wrong and must be stopped.

I agree with this completely. Just remember, when you destroy something, you'd better have a good replacement for the vacuum you create, or the results can be even worse than what you took out.
