We're getting fascinating insights into herd mentality.
If you belong to a herd, and stay close to the herd, you're pretty safe, because predators prefer to pick off the stragglers. So, any member of the herd who falls victim to predators is at fault because it became a straggler, or wandered away.
If you are a herd animal, you never attack a predator, because that only invites reprisals, and that, too, is your own fault.
Safety in numbers, don't rock the boat, don't go looking for trouble and you won't get hurt, unless you're a straggler, in which case, it's your own fault.
Sound familiar?
And herd animals cannot comprehend the mentality of those who protect the flock against predators, because they belong to completely different species.
Oh, and when the herd is attacked by a group of predators, who gets the blame? Those who protect the flock against predators, because they failed to do their job. |
