A lot of people who think they are arguing with Darwin are fighting things he never said. Darwin did not propose a theory for the origin of life on Earth, like the "cosmic soup" theory. He argued for speciation through natural selection, which even Intelligent Design advocates concede (the famous Galapagos finches). The IDers I've read just argue that some of the more complex structures, like eyes, must have been specially designed.

Recent observations suggest that the cosmic soup was actually sweetened with cosmic sugar.
