SHANGHAI (AFX) - China's inflationary pressure has eased but deflation is not yet a problem, said Wang Yiming, vice president of the Academy of Macroeconomic Research (AMR) under the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the Xinhua News Agency reported

"The major reason for the slowing CPI rate is sharply decreased growth in food prices, but in my view, we cannot say there is deflation," said Wang

The economy's upward trend has not changed, and there are strong rises in energy and raw materials, he added

He was quoted as saying he expected that the goal to keep CPI rises within four pct for the whole year can be achieved, and probably it will be within three pct. Some economists have been suggesting that China is about to experience a return to deflation.
