2006 is the watershed year for US politics. It will see a major changing of the guard and a new direction. Pretty much down the middle with moderates of both parties joining together.

The rightwing will be ousted, at least from all blue states. The leftwing (what's left of it) will remain out of power but will have credibility.

You may even see a movement toward a bi-partisan ticket in 2008, like Kerry-Hagel, or McCain-Biden. Something like that.
If the GOP nominates a rightwinger the Dem ticket will win.

Moderate bipartisanship is indeed what the country wants after the strident partisanship and rightwing power grabs of the GW Bush years. Any politician too closely allied with Bush-Cheney or Delay will go down in defeat next year unless they're from Alabama or Utah type states.
