Neurobiologists, neuroanatomists, psychologists, psychiatrists, studying brain chemistry and anatomy at the cellular and sub-cellular level have demonstrated medical reasons for what we call "mental illness."

I'll willingly agree that medicalizing all of human unhappiness is unwarranted, but it is also unwarranted to reject this research out of hand.

But I don't go to movie stars for my health tips. Cruise is wrong -- general medical textbooks on internal medicine do have chapters on depression, etc., see Harris's "Principles of Internal Medicine," the standard internal medicine text.

On the third hand, Thomas Szasz has very interesting things to say.
