China H1 retail sales estimated up 13.1 pct yr-on-yr - NDRC

BEIJING (AFX) - China's retail sales are estimated to have risen 13.1 pct in the first half, according to a government research report published in the official China Securities Journal.

That compares with a growth rate of 13.7 pct in the first quarter.

Retail sales are expected to rise 13 pct for the first nine months and 12.8 pct for the full year, according to the report by the Macroeconomic Research Institute under the National Development and Reform Commission.

Retail sales were up 13.3 pct in all of 2004.

The research institute also expects the export growth rate to slow to 24 pct in the first nine months and 20 pct for all of 2005.

That compares with a growth rate of 32.7 pct in the first half, according to figures from the Customs General Administration released yesterday.

Imports are seen growing 16 pct in the Jan-Sept period and 16 pct for the full year, compared with a 14 pct rise in the first six months.

Industrial value-added output is expected to climb 16.3 pct in the first half, 15.8 pct in the first nine months and 15.7 pct in the full year. Industrial output was up 16.2 pct in the first quarter.
