Put aside the hype, let's deal with the facts as we know it.
Ancor announce a contract with SEQUENT for something in excess
of 35Million... what happened ?
EMC looked at ANCOR, HP's CNO and another company. EMC termed
ANCOR's technologies and products and it's upcoming just announced
switch "CRAP"... this was in Q1/Q2 this year. Just ask Cal Nelson.
The other company was not for sale... EMC ended up buying HP's
FC unit for its 1/4 speed product line and cancelled it's gigabit
line in favor of Brocade's.
Look at SUN. ANCOR maintains a lab there at their own expense and
yet sun maintains a Lab @Brocade. Who has SUN 's FC biz ?
What did casey say about ANCOR's new switch? Something akin to
what Mike_Dell said about the K6 when asked why DELL wasnt using
K6 in its products? Been burnt one too many times...
Wake up and smell the coffee.... ANCOR is a dead company.>>
Willhu, I do not dispute your facts, nor the facts in your posts on the Brocade Thread, but your problem
is that you are dealing in the past. EMC DID NOT evaluate the latest switch, and all their comments were regarding
Class I. Why don't you ask EMC about AL and all the specs on ANCRs new "Storage Switch". Why your at it,
why don't you call SUN to and talk to their FC engineers. Do Not rely on your data from 6 months ago. The only argument
you have is regarding Class 1 vs Class 2,3. You are correct in stating that with ANCR old switch, they could not compete against Brocade in the Class 2,3 storage area. I admit it took ANCR awhile to figure this out, but with their latest additions (New Switch, Ken, Carla) it seems to me that their focus has now changed. Class I is a small high end market right now (very profitable), that will grow with time (EDS seems to like Class I very much). Times change and so should your research. Tom. |
