The Declaration of Independence is a legal document that establishes our right to be an independent and self governing people. Without it the USA has no legitimate claim to exist and the Constitution on which it stands has no authority.

I am not surprised that the legitimacy of inalienable rights would come under fire somewhere in the context of this discussion. I stand at the other end of that continuum. The statement in the Declaration includes that 'among these are'...

It is my firm conviction that we should hold a constitutional convention to discuss the further definition of inalienable rights to include such rights as 'autonomy of conscience' and 'responsibilities for the well being of all creatures within our domain' etc..
