CNBC is making a big deal about how Worldcom's former CEO may be put in prison for life...? What about Enron's Ken Lay...? It's been years since Bush's close friend drove Enron into bankruptcy -- IMO, Enron's management caused more harm to stakeholders than Worldcom's management may have...Thousands of jobs were lost and so many folks lost their pensions -- all while Kenny Boy was telling Wall Street and employees that the company couldn't be better...Of course Mr. Lay's record of stock sales could give prosecuters some great ammo. I would contend that sending Ken Lay away to prison for the rest of his life would do more for corporate governance than anything else the SEC or Justice Department could consider -- it would be symbolic BUT it would send a powerful message...We have to remember that Mr. Lay and his top management team worked to manipulate U.S. energy policy and helped engineer California's "energy crisis".
