Rove is a public figure. He gets no slack. As near as I can figure, this is his defense:

-I didn't NAME Ms. Plame.

What he DID do, by HIS OWN admission, is to say that "Wilson's wife worked for The Agency" to one or more reporters. He outed "Wilson's wife" to the press as a CIA operative, for simple, spiteful revenge.

Rove was talking to reporters, with the known capability to discover that Mrs. Wilson was Valerie Plame - I think any idiot on these threads could have done it. So, saying he didn't NAME Ms. Plame strikes me as VERY weak, kind of like debating what the meaning of the word "is" is.

The real damage here is not only to Mrs. Wilson, but to the phony CIA corporation under who's cover she worked. How many years did it take to set THAT up? How many OTHER agents used it for cover? Are THEY all blown as well? You can bet all foreign intelligence services were paying attention. How many millions of dollars did Karl Rove's vengeful action cost the government? How many YEARS will it take to replace? Mrs. Wilson was working against WMD proliferation.

Rove should resign, just for what he's ADMITTED doing, at the very LEAST. If there's any justice in Bushworld, he should do considerable jail time.
