I agree with you on two points:

1) The coverup and lies are always worse than the original sin.

2) Nobody is "guilty" (of wrong doing) for trying to get to the truth.

However, you are glossing over some other stuff which has nothing to do with getting at the truth and a lot to do with being anti-Repub or anti-Dem.
