>>HOPKINTON, Mass. (AP) -- Caliper Life Sciences Inc., a maker of drug discovery tools and medical tests, said Tuesday that it expects to hit the high end of its second-quarter revenue guidance, and reaffirmed estimates for the full year.

The company said quarterly revenue should come in at the high end of the $17 million to $20 million range, and still sees full-year revenue of $84 million to $90 million.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial are looking for sales of $18.8 million and $85.7 million for the quarter and year, respectively.

Caliper also said it granted a non-exclusive license for its microfluidics patents to Agilent Technologies Inc., a maker of scientific instruments and analysis equipment. The license covers Agilent's use of Caliper's LabChip technology, a testing system of tiny channels built into a biochip that can perform thousands of experiments on a sample.

The company will supply biochips to Agilent -- which will use the technology in its 2100 Bioanalyzer testing system -- for the next five years. Agilent will pay an upfront licensing fee and royalties on products covered by the agreement. Financial details were not disclosed.

Caliper shares rose 20 cents, or 3.4 percent, to $6.10 in afternoon trading on the Nasdaq, and Agilent shares rose 10 cents to $25.77 on the New York Stock Exchange.<<
