and then go out with a rifle that is scoped so well he can't miss an elk or similar creature and go on to brag about shooting it.

Yeah, I never really got into hunting.

I remember as a kid I killed a squirrel with a BB gun.
I remember how terrible it made me feel.

It was an awesome shot from way far off. Never thought
I'd even hit it. Way up in the tallest of Maple trees.
I could barely see its silluette in the distance.

First I was amazed with myself at the shot as I saw it
falling from the thin branch.

Then I remember thinking to myself that I just did the
worst thing I could ever do.

The site of the dead squirrel still haunts me when I
think about it.

It was sort of dancin around in circles in pain. I
had to use the butt of the Daisy BB pump rifle to
finish him off.

I buried it right where it landed in the woods.
I put a little grave marker of stones around it in a
circle.

I felt like sh!t for a long time.

Since then I've had several friends who wanted to take
me deer or turkey hunting but I never can get myself to
go. I think if I did go I'd probably just take a camera
with a long range lens and take a picture instead.

A friend of mine is an avid bow hunter. Won't use a
rifle. He takes one arrow with him. He has to be real
stealth-like and has to be able to get in real close.
Doesn't bait them or use any sort of fancy calls or scents.
Just his voice and his bow. Sort of the way the native
americans did it, I imagine.

More of a spiritual thing, I suppose.

If I was able to hunt, I guess that would be the way I
would most be able to wrap my mind around the idea. Even
then it would be tough for me.

I'd still see that little squirrel flopping around.
