Any scientist or statistician will tell you that racial profiling can be a very good way to catch a criminal. Have you ever heard of profiling in criminal cases? That's where they look at the profile of a serial killer or other criminal and match it up against known patterns from their database of previous cases. It's very good for developing a predictive profile of the criminal they are after.

Same thing goes with terrorism. Today, most large terrorist acts which result in civilian killings are perpetrated by Muslims. 95%+ of all worldwide terrorist acts are committed by Muslims. It doesn't take a genius to realize you have to use that as a factor when you are seeking to prevent future attacks.
