Oh really? Is that why the government ended up settling with Randy Weaver and paying a substantial sum of money?

It's been a while since I reviewed this case, but I believe you are wrong.

Weaver did not fire the first shot.

The Marshals claimed that Kevin Harris shot first.

Weaver contends that the Marshals shot the dog, which prompted Sammy Weaver to fire back.

IMO, the entire incident was a sad chapter for US law enforcement.

Not saying Weavers were spotless and squeaky clean, but the situation could easily have been handled differently.

The Marshals Service and BATF was out of line.
