John I beg to differ with you about your comparison of George W. Bush with a chimp.
Many moons ago, in 1960 I had the lucky fortune of travelling with the now famous Miss Jane Goodall, arriving on the shore of Lake Tanganyika in East Africa to study the area's chimpanzee population. I was 13 and just lucky as I say.
So, as her ‘camera toter’ as she called me I had the pleasure of being pretty up close and personal with the chimp population on that mountain we set up camp in.
Hot during the days and cold at night.
In the early mornings the chimp families came down the mountain tops to drink water, and find bananas. They must have had other foodstuffs up higher.
So I got to be close to many chimps, young and old. Gave them names like Sir Nannerhead, Longjaws, and other names we liked at the time. They became quite sociable with us, and the big apes were also friendly. One morning I was out filming a tribe, and while walking backward with my camera I tripped on a big rock and tumbled over. Whack my camera smacked me. I was dazed. Next thing I knew a daddy chimp picked me up with one hand and got me upright. Nice as heck to me. In fact I'll say that about all the chimps treated us well and fairly.
Okay now fast forward 28 years to Texas, my new home since the move back from Africa.
I knew a gal reporter named Kay Bailey, the future Kay Bailey Hutchinson, who needed a camera guy for a press junket she was going to have with George W. Bush, running for his first elective office. We flew with Dubya for 4 days. He was goofier than most of those chimps I lived with to tell the truth. Meaner than a snake to we nobodys. Nice to Kay Bailey though. Called his mom about twice a day.
So John, what I’m saying is that I’ve known chimps and I’ve known George Bush, and George Bush is no chimp.
