Orion -

You keep ignoring the time delay factor.

If 5% of the people who bought iPods last quarter buy Macs within the next year, then there's a halo effect. But that means an additional 300k units over the course of the year. You can't expect 300k additional units in the same quarter the iPods were sold.

I do agree with you that if PMac prices came down, Apple would probably sell more. But they're not in the same business Dell is in. They're providing a quality product configured with premium features like SuperDrives. They sell fewer units, but they make more money on each unit. That's why their net profit is more than 12% while Dell's is around 7%.

I also agree that when PMacs are no longer perceived to be slower than PCs, Apple will sell more of them.
