I think we can agree that Pakistan is a very unsettled region. Currently the military government has Marshal control over civil order, while fundamentalists have a legitimate claim to establish government by Shariah. Mix that up for a while and you get some interesting results. (I predict a blood bath) FWIW scholars from Pakistan have been among the first and most outspoken in proclaiming democracy to be fundamentally supportable via Islamic teachings.
