>> Iraqi government...doesn't care that Iran and the USA are not on friendly terms. They openly go to Iran...knowing that, their benefactor, the USA does not want them to do that.

Well, you have to remember that this government was not the government of choice, but the best US could get. The neocons actually selected and trained a whole new Iraqi government in Pentagon under Wolfie's oversight (now if that was not stepping out of their bounds into State Department's I don't know what was). But the Iraqis did not take that. They did not even take Alawi's and other hand picks. The alternative to this government is a mix of Sadrists and Ba'thists. So this is as good as it gets.

>> I think the government isn't a single entity with a single purpose...

I completely agree. However government is a single "class" or more accurately it answers to a single class, i.e. corporations. Now sometimes we get some benefit where government is more responsive to one lobby group versus another, but the fact remains that on the whole government is responsible to only one class and that is not the average Joe's.

Without campaign finance report there is nothing we can do about it. So I suggest you forget about buying your politician and instead focus on bringing about finance reform.

I leave you with this quote from Churchill that clarifies how governments think:

"The unnatural and increasingly rapid growth of the feeble-minded and insane classes, coupled as it is with a steady restriction among all the thrifty, energetic and superior stocks, constitutes a national and race danger which it is impossible to exaggerate… I feel that the source from which the stream of madness is fed should be cut off and sealed up before another year has passed."

* Churchill to Prime Minister Asquith, 1910
