John McCain's leadership of a small and very weak-minded faction in the Senate which propped up the obstructionists was a HUGE signal that he understands his presidential aspirations in the Republican party are finished forever.

CYBERKEN's observation:

He is REALLY positioning himself to take a stab at the second spot with Satan in 2008.

He might have accepted that with Kerry in 2004, but he recognized that it was really over, and Kerry had no chance.

So both Satan and the Mad Cow have a keen sense of realpolitik. That's good. They won't have to be told WHY they lost so badly to a new and relatively unknown Republican in 2008...
