I had Hopkins winning 116-113 (7-4-1 in rounds). I didn't give Taylor a round after the 6th (I scored the 7th even) with Hopkins sweeping rounds 8-12. Hopkins almost knocked Taylor out in the 10th and Hopkins won every statistical category except missed punches.

Taylor was warned repeatedly throughout the fight for holding and was never penalized. The overly officious (as usual) Jay Nady was terrible, stepping in at the wrong time throughout the fight.

Taylor has a good chin and stamina and showed a decent work rate. Hopkins neutralized Taylor's jab after the first few rounds and it was only a minor factor in the 2nd half of the fight. Hopkins needed to be busier earlier and I felt he needed to close stronger. Hopkins has lost a little hand speed and I feel he has slipped a bit offensively. Still, Hopkins had more than enough left to take out Taylor but he needed to put more hurt on Taylor earlier. I give Taylor credit for being a bit better defensively than I had thought, particularly in the first half of the fight so maybe he had someting to do with Bernard's early lack of aggression.

The powers that be in boxing now have their guy with the title. Hopkins should not have put it in the hands of the judges. He won't make the same mistake in the rematch.
