"The US political establishment just wants to stave the future debacle off. They will go to any lengths to do this, most certainly including wars and MORE wars."

And keep growing, borrowing and spending in any way possible including stepping up the pace of immigrants from third world countries and attempt to bring capitalism and middle class luxury into as many of the homes as possible of the couple of billion people there who will not be coming to the USA. I do think it is a rolling stagflationary depression we are in. The smart money gets out of bubbles and just starts a new one that feeds on itself in a world desperate for yield and an endless crop of new age speculators who think this time will be different and everybody gets rich in America<g> Yes gold, oil patch RE and small caps will do very well next cycle. Perhaps DOW trades between 8-12k the rest of the decade and home prices in frothy bubble markets slide 40% over time doesn't mean the world will come to an end<g>.
