John, that website you posted (city-data.com) doesn't seem to be as up-to-date as the one I posted a little earlier (relocationessentials.com).
For example, yours said the median house price in my zip code is $388,700. The site I mentioned says it's well over $600K, which I know to be accurate as of very recently.
All such websites are interesting, however. Most useful, I guess, in comparing home prices to incomes of the residents.
If I ever get to leave the DC area--and I hope to when the time is right--I'm looking to move to a specific town in Georgia, where the latest info indicates the educational levels are higher than where I live now, jobs are good, the home prices are a fraction of where I live now (and incomes are a fraction, too, but still the jobs are mostly good, professional ones.
Speaking of jobs--just saw a story in Wash Post a day or two ago about heat/AC technicians--one was quoted as saying that the Heat/AC field is great work in a white collar town like DC. He said young kids aged low-20s can make $50K per year in that biz. So what is a "professional white-collar" job, anyway, these days? <<gg>> |
