Hey... I need suggestions. A dog wandered out of the woods on Friday afternoon mangy.. and I suspect has Mange,hair all knotted and feces hanging from it. The dog looks like Toto in the Wizard of Oz. Just the cutest face. It will not allow you to get within 30 feet of her. I surmised it's a she because of the way she squats. I called the Humane Society. They leave early on Friday. I called the Animal Control and they called back Saturday and said they would come out tomorrow and capture her. I don't think they will be able to do it. She has been fed... dog food and special treat, hamburger... (Sorry Grannie) as well as given water and a blanket on which she curls up at night on the covered porch. If the front door opens she bolts. She bolts every time anyone comes near her. She has eaten and drunk and now she belongs here or she thinks. If I walk down the driveway to the mailbox she runs ahead just far enough that when I get mid point down the drive she bolts back up the drive. During the day she lies by the garage doors and does not come near the porch. She is my mystery dog. Was she abused . How long has she been abandoned in the woods.. Where did she come from as we are in a gated community but near a National Forrest. She is nameless, homeless and if there is anything seriously wrong with her should the Animal Control capture her and take her back to their quarters to be checked over, she will be put down. This all pains me. I did not sleep well on Friday night. The face of this dog with ears alert but not trusting a human haunted me. I crept along the ground with food in my outstretched arm in order to get her to come to me. She will not let me get closer than 8 feet. At night when darkness comes she is back on her blanket. Has anyone ever had an experience like this. A dog that might have been so mis teated that it doesn't trust humans... I don't want it put down. I have a dog but I want to have this one and put it up for adoption... The Humane Society and Animal Control as well as Genius all ready have dogs to place and will not take on more. It's beige with some black markings.. like a Corki.. or another breed the name of which I cannot think of now. Someone told me that if she was allowed to remain and was fed that eventually she would be approachable . However, she needs Vet care and of course it was impossible to catch her to even consider taking to a Vet. I will let you all know what happens tomorrow. I fear the worst with her and thinking of her being put down in a few days saddens me... At least she is eating well right now and seems happy to stick around. She does not know what faces her. Opinions... ???This is the Feelies Thread. This is a feelies issue... I think.
