Single mindedly supporting whoever who killed the most Russians without regards for their motivations and ideology is so shortsighted that I cannot believe US experts in charge of the operation were blind to its side effects after the war. In fact, they made it worse through a slew of kill-them-all-Allah-will-sort-it-out speeches and propaganda material (like giving children books that taught math by counting dead Russian soldiers). In a region rife with tribalism and religious rivalry, it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out the aftermath of power vacuum created by Russian withdraw of forces, does it? What happened to the caring and humanity?

What was the motivation for not allowing the Afghan fighters to be at the table with Russians? And why were Saudi and Pakistanis there?

I never said that America should have nation builded Afghanistan as per Iraq. That is a dumb bet everywhere. But Americans are generous people. I don't think anyone would have complained about building schools and hospitals and so on in Afghanistan after the occupation.
