"Paraplui" means against rain. "Parasol" means against sun.

But "para" doesn't always mean against, it can also mean beyond or outside.

Paramilitary means a private military organization, outside the ordinary military.

In this context, a parachurch is outside the mainstream of churches.

Megachurch is something different. The Lakewood church in the former sports arena is indeed a megachurch.

I think it would be a misnomer to call a denomination with many, many individual churches a megachurch.
