I'd expect AMD would settle, *RIGHT NOW* for a promise from INTC that they'd cut it out, modify the rebate program, and play nice.

Unfortunately for AMD, playing nice is not required and it will likely turn out that the rebate program is in full compliance with the law as well. Intel did not design their rebate program in a vacuum. It was designed by experts in the Law. This will be determined in a Court of Law and not played out in the gutter as AMD is doing now.
