Did you hear about the new washing powder called Fug? It was designed as a replacement for Duz. Their slogan is "If Duz Doesn't Do It, Then Fug it"
IE is built on NCSA Mosaic, arguable inferior to Nutscrape, Mozilla, Opera, Amaya, or Arena (which never really worked but proved that XML browsers and CSS based browsers could work) Avant is built on a front end to IE. Improvement? What would not be?
Most used system on the Internut is mail, but you don't see people trying to beat Eudora, Pigassus or Blechlook Depress. That CAN be done and would be VERY useful. Loads of organization functions one could ask for.
"New" tech is Amaya, a true XML browser and really interesting Tech is/was Arena, a many-window system-integrated (browsing is transparent to other computer functions CSS-browser (Syle sheets are a complex way of making page building simple. Werks diffuruntlee in IE and Netscrape just to defeat the whole standards issue of intercommunication.) And then there was the Jumbo, the "Chemical" (XML-Chemistry) browser, truly advanced and an interesting research tool.
I really do mourn Archie, which had specialized research tools. Universtities did not want to make it friendly. U's are getting more distant and inaccessible.
The most useful programs no one will pay for. compooterz is just spozed to werk and dat's it.
MS does not suffer other Godz well.
