We can 3. disabuse the protester of his claim. Or we can 4. brush him off and accept whatever consequences we can't mitigate. "

Those 4 options cover a tremendous amount of territory. When faced with any problems do you ever have much more latitude than the above? At least if you understand the grievances and the reason for the protest, 1-4 become much easier to discuss, and one can understand, with less possibility of error, the likelihood of 3, and the ramifications of 4. IMO, of course. That's all we have here, opinion.
