OT...Yes, as I have always understood it, potassium (from the bananas you mentioned) and sodium have to stay in some modicum of balance in the human body, or you're in trouble. There is also such a thing as water intoxication.

I never agreed with the crazy "snack and drink" ideas provided by parents at my kids' soccer games when they were young. Never been a big fan of such things as GatorAde (or however you spell it) but at least this type of "sports" drink contains electrolytes one needs when fluids are being drained from a human system.

When my boys reached the level where they were playing high school baseball, somewhat smarter heads prevailed about what was being given to the players on hot days and in the middle of games. (Sunflower seeds and macho spitting of the seeds from the dugout and during at-bat situations were popular (ahem) along with plain water and electrolyte-type drinks.)
