Don't bother arguing about Roberts. It's a lost cause. He will probably get 90 votes. Unless there is some scandal that comes out. The fight would have been over one of those Texas Christian Coalition/pro-Enron types. Then Bush's choice would have been defeated. Bush is weakened now and chose not to try and stuff someone down the senate's throat. Frist and Santorum are also weak. So they picked someone just conservative enough not to piss off the base, but just rational enough to appease moderates. Liberals would not be happy with any Bush choice, plus they're the small minority in the Senate. Bush chose not to give the GOP moderates any big reason to shoot his choice down.
