I think Roberts was appointed to divert the press from Rove. Roberts may never get approved so all he will do is divert attention from Rove and Liddy for a few months.

ROberts is a smoke screen..........it will serve a couple purposes...........1. Divert attention from Rove's Plame
problem.
2. Appease the right wing Christian
groups. Since Roberts will never get
approved by the Senate he will not be
around to nullify RoeV Wade. Bush can
appear to have tried and will claim he
tried to the anti-abortion groups. Those
darn Democrats wouldn't approve
Roberts so Bush will be off the hook.
Laura and Barb are in on the fix.
3. There are other things in the Bush agenda
that will be buried by the press due to
all the fighting that will begin shortly.

BUsh is under great pressure by Robertson and Falwell to pony up the goods.

I would have been shocked if anyone to the middle of the line had been nominated.
